David Cameron Resigns From Parliament

Former UK Prime Minister David Cameron has resigned from parliament and will no longer represent Witney. Cameron has served in parliament since 2001. Cameron said that he is resigning because he feels as though his presence is a "distraction." He had previously said that he intended to serve as an MP until the next general election.

From the BBC:

Mr Cameron, who resigned as prime minister after June's EU referendum, said he did not want to be a "distraction" for new PM Theresa May.

He had said he would continue as an MP until the next general election.

The 49-year-old, who has represented Witney since 2001, became Conservative leader in 2005 and PM in 2010.

Cameron stepped down from prime minister in June following the "Brexit" vote. He had been a vocal supporter of the effort to keep the United Kingdom in the European Union. Following a brief scramble for party leader, Teresa May eventually emerged victorious and took control of the Conservative Party.
