Abortion Activists "Honor" Palin

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Anonymous liberal activists are soliciting donations for a well-known abortion provider to sarcastically “honor” the pro-life GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

“We may have thought we wanted a woman on a national political ticket, but the joke has really been on us, hasn't it?” a highly-circulated, unsigned email begins. “Are you as sick in your stomach as I am at the thought of Sarah Palin as Vice President of the United States?

"None of you, however, can be happy with Palin's selection, especially on her positions on women's issues,” the email states. "So, if you feel you can't support the Obama campaign financially, may I suggest the following fiendishly brilliant alternative? And best of all, do both – Donate to Planned Parenthood AND to the Obama campaign. Make a donation to Planned Parenthood. In Sarah Palin's name. A Planned Parenthood donation is tax deductible, while a political donation isn't.”

The email directs contributors to an online donation page for Planned Parenthood and asks them to check a box to make the gift in “honor” of “McCain for President.”

The solicitation has republished on several liberal blogs.

The text of the email links to a Planned Parenthood donation page. Although there is no evidence the email was sent by Planned Parenthood officials, the organization is openly opposing Palin’s candidacy.

The Planned Parenthood Action Center, the non-profit’s political arm, features an online petition to Palin that declares “We are hundreds of thousands strong, and we are doing everything we can to make sure you are not elected.”

To date, 48,449 people have signed the petition.
