There's a Reason Some People Oppose Gun Rights

AP Photo/Seth Perlman, File

Most people who own guns have them for self-defense or, by extension, to protect their families. It's part of why I have them. Having the right to keep and bear arms isn't necessarily an obligation. Many need a reason beyond, "Because I can," though that's as good a reason as any.

But many who oppose that right have a nefarious reason to oppose it.

See, they're not good people. They want you disarmed because they might decide to hurt someone and they don't want you killing them over it, even if they deserve it.

A case in point comes from my home state:

“Georgia Former Democrat … Candidate Who Called for Trump’s Assassination ARRESTED in Multi-State Child Sex Trafficking Sting,” Gateway Pundit reported Thursday. “Carl Sprayberry — a former Democrat candidate for Georgia’s 139th House District … called for the assassination of President Donald Trump in a social media post…”
...

So, what we have is a wannabe politician caught up in a child sex trafficking scheme who ardently advocates for politically motivated murder and uses the Second Amendment to justify bloodthirsty lawlessness. That he’s a Democrat, the party with citizen disarmament baked into its platform, makes his homicidal rantings insanely hypocritical enough.

But wait, as the infomercial urges, there’s more!

From “Meet Carl Sprayberry”  on his (not yet deleted) campaign website:

Carl is the only candidate in the State House 139 race recognized by Moms Demand Action, an organization dedicated to reducing gun violence founded following the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that left 20 children (ages six to seven) and six adult school staff dead

This is a man who has been arrested for child sex trafficking, along with 18 others. I can't help but look at his stances on gun control and think that the reason he opposes gun rights is because he knows good and well that he wanted to engage in actions that could get him shot.

Allegedly.

Yes, these are just allegations. Sprayberry has been arrested, not convicted, and I have to acknowledge that he's innocent until proven guilty, but I think we all know that it's just a formality. Far too many of these people turn out to be just as scummy as they appear.

Regardless, the idea that an alleged predator would want the family of his potential prey to be disarmed is hardly shocking. This is also why mass killers prefer gun-free zones and why other forms of violent criminals are rather fond of them, too.

They're cowards. They don't want resistance. They don't want to face someone willing to hurt them in response. So, they prefer policies that leave you and me disarmed.

For this one, it's likely so that he can (allegedly) hurt our children in unspeakable ways, ways that are so vile that shooting him should be a mercy compared to what he deserves.

I won't go so far as to say Sprayberry is indicative of the Democratic Party as a whole, but I will point out that it was Democrats who, not that long ago, were trying really hard to push the whole "Minor Attracted People" narrative of accepting pedophiles as being the same thing as gay or lesbian folks. They're far more tolerant of this behavior than anyone should have a right to be, and the fact that so many of them are also anti-gun, well...

Yeah, I think I'll keep those guns, thank you very much. My daughter deserves to grow up safe and sound.
