Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) sat down with CNN’s Jake Tapper today to discuss the Department of Justice’s release of the 2016 Carter Page FISA application. While on ‘State of the Union,’ the senator asserted that the FBI did nothing wrong, contradicting claims made by the White House that the agency engaged in a “witch hunt.”
“I have a different view on it,” Sen. Rubio said of the president’s Sunday morning tweets.
"I don't believe that them looking into Carter Page means they were spying on the campaign. I also don't believe it proves anything about collusion," Rubio said. "He was a guy that was on their screen even before the campaign…I don't think it's part of any broader plot. The only plot here is the plot to interfere in our election by the Russians."
President Trump tweeted today that the released FISA documents proved “with little doubt that the Department of 'Justice' and FBI misled the courts. Witch Hunt Rigged, a Scam!”
"I don't think they did anything wrong," Rubio said of the DOJ and the FBI. "There was a lot of reasons unrelated to the dossier why they wanted to look at Carter Page."

Sen. Rubio doubled down on these comments via Twitter, saying, “The @FBI had many reasons to look into this guy. And looking into him is not “spying” on Trump campaign, because as the White House made clear last year, he was “not an ‘advisor’ to Mr. Trump in any sense of the word.”

The former 2016 GOP presidential primary candidate also added on CBS' 'Face the Nation' that the FBI "did not spy on the campaign from anything and everything that I have seen."
