European law enforcement has made groundbreaking arrests following its take down of KidFlix, described as "one of the largest pedophile platforms in the world," in a major joint operation. This dark web platform, which facilitated the exploitation of innocent children, was a hub for heinous crimes. The operation, which involved more than 30 countries and agencies, underscores the urgency of cracking down on online child exploitation and sending a clear message that those who enable such vile activities will be brought to justice.

Europol announced this week that it had made dozens of arrests in connection to a child pornography network linked to the Darknet platform Kidflix. This site had 1.8 million users worldwide and distributed images of child sexual abuse. The investigation, led by German authorities and supported by law enforcement in 38 countries, including Australia, Canada, and the U.S., was coordinated by Europol. As a result, 79 individuals have been arrested, and nearly 1,400 suspects have been identified.

Guido Limmer, deputy head of the Bavarian Criminal Police, said that the move to shut down the child pornography site, which was created in 2021, was "one of the biggest blows against child pornography in recent years, if not ever.”

The site contained more than 91,000 child porn videos, with an average of three and a half videos being uploaded to the website every hour. This totaled roughly 6,288 hours of video uploaded to the site. Instead of paying a fee to use the site, users could stream and upload videos of child sex abuse. Europol stated that individuals arrested were not only accused of viewing or sharing child pornography but some were also suspected of directly participating in the abuse of children.

The Bavarian police raided 96 locations, targeting 103 individual suspects. In one of the raids, German and Dutch authorities seized a hard drive with about 72,000 videos of child sexual abuse. Authorities also identified a "serial" abuser in the United States during a joint investigation between Europol and the FBI.
