Alvin Bragg's Office Offers Stunning Gaslighting on NYC Crime Stats Ahead of Next Week's Hearing

Townhall Media

Someone should tell Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg to look in the mirror when it comes to how the George Soros-backed woke prosecutor is clearly looking to make a name for himself. On Monday, as Julio had reported, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) tweeted that the House Judiciary Committee, which he chairs, would be holding a hearing in New York City to look into the rise of violent crime there. On Tuesday, as Spencer covered, Bragg announced that he was suing Jordan.

As former law clerk Mike Davis highlighted, the lawsuit is already off to a bad start.

In between then, though, Bragg's office had to throw in some gaslighting talking points about the nature of crime in New York City. Bloomberg News' Billy House tweeted out a statement and Fox News' Chad Pergram highlighted them in a Twitter thread.

It is particularly rich that Bragg's office would claim that House Republicans are the ones engaging in "a political stunt" when it comes to the hearing. Bragg has engaged in a "political stunt" in countless ways when it comes to charging former and potentially future President Donald Trump with 34 felony charges, despite how he could have gone for misdemeanor charges. Further, the statute of limitations had expired, and it's an untested legal theory

It's also pretty bold for Bragg to tout such crime numbers. According to the NYPD crime statistics for April 3, 2023 to April 9, 2023, there have still this year so far been 100 crime complaints when it comes to murder; 408 for rape; 4,102 for robbery; 3,878 for burglary; and 12,839 for grand larceny. Criminal complaints for felony assault actually rose by 8.5 percent to 6,742 complaints and grand larceny of a vehicle (GLA) rose by 8.2 percent, resulting in 3,858 complaints.

And let's not pretend that New York City is some crime-free paradise. The New York Post in particular had been sounding the alarm for years about crime and Bragg, but even The New York Times provided some acknowledgment as well. "Major Crimes Rose 22 Percent in New York City, Even as Shootings Fell," read a headline from January 5.

When it comes to the talking points on safer cities, Katie last November pointed to how the Heritage Foundation has responded to claims to Democrat-run cities and states supposedly being overall safer.

As mentioned in a report from the Heritage Foundation when it comes to the 30 cities with the highest homicide rates as of June 2022:

Not surprisingly, of those 30 cities, 27 have Democratic mayors, the exceptions being Lexington and Jacksonville, which have Republican mayors, and Las Vegas, whose mayor is an Independent. And within those 30 cities there are at least 14 Soros-backed or Soros-inspired rogue prosecutors. Those Soros bought-and-paid-for or inspired rogue prosecutors include...

...

There were 2,554 homicides in those 30 cities through June 2022. In the 14 cities with Soros-backed rogue prosecutors, there were 1,752 homicides, representing 68 percent of homicides in the 30 top homicide cities in the United States.

Every Soros rogue prosecutor listed above is a Democrat.

Bragg is included on that list, as our others, and, as Mia has already done a thorough analysis of, Bragg is indeed funded by George Soros, despite what The Washington Post's Glenn Kessler may want to claim in his fact-check.

While Cleveland and Cincinnati are included on the list, so is New York. Further, the Ohio cities are not in Rep. Jordan's district, and they are run by Democratic mayors.

In addition to tweets, Rep. Jordan appeared on Fox News' "Special Report," where he lambasted Bragg and his claims. As he told host Bret Baier, "they're obstructing our investigation" and "we have a constitutional duty to get to the facts," emphasizing how this has to do with the 2024 presidential election. Jordan also painted the picture of how "Alvin Bragg used federal funds to indict a former president for no crime, and then when we ask questions about it, when we want to investigate, he takes us to court."

Jordan went on to explain that "this is because we want to talk to someone who left the DA's office a year ago, who went out and wrote a book on this very subject, did all kinds of interviews, was pushing to go after President Trump before he got there, while he got there, when he left he wrote a book about it and we're not allowed to talk to him, to do our duty. The congressman went on to emphasize once more that "they're obstructing our constitutional duty to do oversight."

Hopefully Jordan's tweets and media appearances tearing Bragg and his narrative apart are just the beginning of what is surely going to be a doozy of a showdown.

"Jim Jordan" is currently trending on Twitter about the lawsuit and the hearing.
