And There It Is: Dem Rep Accuses Steve Scalise Of Islamophobia

AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster

Well, we knew this card was going to be played by Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI): The calls to have Omar removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee are grounded in Islamophobia. This comes after Omar uttered remarks that many took as anti-Semitic. It dealt with the dual loyalty smear that’s been lobbed at Jewish people. It’s not new, which is why this is so baffling. Both women think they’re being singled out for being black and Muslim. Nope. It’s because their views are total garbage, and these talking points are definitely rooted in anti-Semitism. These two very well could be criticizing Israel, but far too often has that been used to shield people who just hate Jews. It’s ridiculous. Everyone knows the magical powers to hypnotize, the money peddling, and the dual loyalty is linked to such bigotry. Here’s what Omar tweeted:

Rep. Ilhan Omar has intensified her claims that some Jewish lawmakers have a dual loyalty to Israel, rejecting criticism from Democratic colleagues that she is engaging in anti-Semitism.

“I should not be expected to have allegiance/pledge support to a foreign country in order to serve my country in Congress or serve on committee,” Omar tweeted Sunday afternoon. “I am told everyday that I am anti-American if I am not pro-Israel. I find that to be problematic and I am not alone. I just happen to be willing to speak up on it and open myself to attacks.”

Omar, an aggressive first-term Democrat hoping to bring left-wing views to the Foreign Affairs Committee, has drawn rebukes from Democratic leaders after her comments about the U.S.-Israel alliance. Foreign Affairs Chairman Eliot Engel, who is Jewish, urged her on Friday to apologize for suggesting that Israel supporters “push for allegiance to a foreign country,” a claim that he dubbed “a vile anti-Semitic slur.”

And now, Tlaib to the rescue:

Calls for Omar to apologize were immediate and ignored by the left-wing Democrat. She’s not apologizing for this one, and Tlaib and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) have rushed to her defense, which says all you need to know about this little crew. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) has called on Omar to be removed from her committee post on Foreign Affairs, which drew Tlaib’s response. Yes, some a have dredged up this old smear about Scalise speaking at a white nationalist gathering in 2002 when he was in the state legislature. Scalise didn’t know the group had neo-Nazi ties and even left-wing fact checker Snopes wasn’t confident enough to go with that attack line.

Both Tlaib and Omar support the anti-Israel boycott, Disinvestment, and Sanctions movement that is reportedly a vicious anti-Semitic movement. So, the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree with these clowns. Voters are going to buy this ‘you’re attacking me because you’re Islamophobic’ crap when it comes to folks from all sides criticizing them for peddling anti-Semitic trash.
