All Cleared: Ivanka Trump, Husband Not Seeking Security Clearances...Haven't Even Applied For Them

Cortney wrote about CNN’s Jim Acosta reporting how President-elect Donald Trump’s children and son-in-law Jared Kushner were requesting security clearances from a source on the transition team. Trump campaign manager and senior adviser Kellyanne Conway said that these requests were very informal. Leah wrote this morning that Trump rejected the notion that any of this is happening. Now, The New York Times is reporting that daughter Ivanka and her husband, Kushner, aren’t making requests for security clearances.

Neither Ivanka Trump, President-elect Donald J. Trump’s daughter, nor her husband, Jared Kushner, has applied for a security clearance, nor do they intend to, according to two people close to the Trump transition.

In the long back-and-forth over whether Mr. Trump’s family would get top-secret security clearances, Kellyanne Conway seemed to tip her hand on Wednesday — at least regarding Mr. Kushner.

“It’s appropriate for whoever’s going to get the presidential daily briefing to have a security clearance,” Ms. Conway, Mr. Trump’s campaign manager, said. “It’s not just appropriate, necessary.”

But transition officials said Mr. Kushner had not sat in any security briefings and had no plans to.

Cortney added that the process would entail making his kids national security advisers, but for now, these appear to be just another tale in the transition rumor mill.
