Dems: 'Oh, We're Working a Five-Day Week. Maybe Next Week or the Week After?'

Oh, when they said "five-day work week," you thought they meant, like, every week? Well, they wouldn't want to exhaust themselves too early in the session. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Dec. 6:

"I have bad news for you," Hoyer told reporters. "Those trips you had planned in January, forget 'em. We will be working almost every day in January, starting with the 4th."

The reporters groaned. "I know, it's awful, isn't it?" Hoyer empathized.

For lawmakers, it is awful, compared with what they have come to expect. For much of this election year, the legislative week started late Tuesday and ended by Thursday afternoon -- and that was during the relatively few weeks the House wasn't in recess.

Jan. 8:

"Monday, January 8, 2007: The House is not in session."

Hill sources claim The House is taking Monday 'off' this week, because of the championship football game between Ohio State and the University of Florida.

 

Football over freedom, guys? Quite a contrast with this guy, huh?
