Strange things are afoot in Chapel Hill, and some are speculating it may have something to do with the publication of the Mohammed cartoons in the Daily Tar Heel, the newspaper of the University of North Carolina.

Six people were injured when a driver piloted his SUV into a crowd of folks on campus before fleeing the scene:

Officials say the incident occurred in front of Lenoir Hall at the student gathering area known as The Pit.

UNC Hospital said none of the people transported were seriously injured. Three other people declined treatment on the scene, according to police.

Campus police said they had a suspect in custody. He was identified as Mohammed Reza Taheriazar, 23, a UNC student as recently as fall 2005. Police said they would charge the suspect with multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
