A 'Sinister' Trap: Left-Wing City May Open 'Woke' LGBTQ+ Charter School

Pro-LGBTQ+ supporters will stop at nothing to push their twisted agenda on children and work to get in between kids and their parents. This agenda permeated its way into the culture through schools, sports, entertainment, and many other avenues. Certain states encourage teachers to keep a child’s so-called “gender identity” a secret from parents and want to normalize so-called “gender-affirming care,” like sex reassignment surgeries. And, some states allow men who say that they're women to compete in women's sports, robbing them of awards and opportunities.

One activist is now putting a plan in motion to create a school for children dedicated to focusing on gender and sexuality.

A charter school that will focus on “queer” and “transgender” issues may open in Brooklyn, New York, despite outcry from critics, according to a report from the New York Post.

Reportedly, the Miss Major Middle charter school, which would be tuition-free, would serve as a “genderful environment” for children in grades 5 through 9 to “embrace their own identity, and decide how they will authentically walk, through the world.”

The school will reportedly teach “gender-inclusive” biology, using terminology that erases men and women and pushes “authenticity, continuity, affirmation, anti-oppression, and student agency” (via NYP):

Instead of lessons differentiating male and female anatomy, language is changed from “women” to “ovaries” that produce eggs and “gestational parent,” not mother, that “carries the fetus for nine months.”

The Post noted that the founder, Joji Florence, is a “proud” parent of three and graduated from Dartmouth College. Florence reportedly identifies as “non-binary.” In a recent piece for Chalkbeat New York, Florence claimed that he wants to open Miss Major Middle in fall of 2025 (via Chalkbeat):

The spirit of our school will be embodied by our namesake, Miss Major Griffin-Gracy. Miss Major is a Black transgender activist who played a pivotal role in the Stonewall Uprising and has dedicated her life to advocating for the rights and well-being of transgender and gender non-conforming people.

I started thinking about the possibility of Miss Major Middle several years back, when an eighth grade student of mine bravely came out as non-binary. I noticed that other teachers and administrators were asking the student directly what non-binary meant and what they/them pronouns were. The onus of teaching these adults about their gender identity fell, unfairly, to the child.

I realized then that New York City needed a school established from its inception with the needs and voices of trans, nonbinary, queer, and ally students, teachers, and parents in mind. This is Miss Major Middle.

In interviews with the Post, several parents voiced concern over the school.

“I was shocked to hear about this school,” Helen Qiu, a NYC mom with a middle-school-aged son who’s running for New York’s 65th State Assembly district in lower Manhattan, said. “There’s a push in schools to normalize the transgender movement, to make it younger and younger in age, and to exclude parents from knowing about their children’s transgender inclination. These three things combined equals child abuse.”

“We need to elect people to oppose it,” Qiu added.

Colin Wright, a fellow at the Manhattan Institute, called the school a “sinister” trap.

“If you’re a parent who doesn’t know much about gender ideology and you hear that a kid can be themselves, not judged, it looks so progressive and fantastic. It sounds really good,” he told the Post. “These parents probably think the school is about just being yourself, free to be you and me, but it’s absolutely not what’s happening. They’re saying you can’t just be an effeminate boy and masculine girl. It’s saying, ‘If you’re an effeminate boy, you’re actually a girl.’”

“I would keep my kids so far from this school, it’s not even funny,” he said.
