Obamacare Architect Blames Trump For Law's Failures

Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber, who once said the “stupidity of the American voter” helped Congress pass the Affordable Care Act, tried to place the blame for the Affordable Care Act’s failures on President Trump Sunday.

In discussing Obamacare exchanges on “Fox News Sunday,” host Chris Wallace noted that in Iowa there is only one insurance company left in the state’s exchange, which may soon pull out as well.

"And whose fault is this?" Gruber asked. "Before President Trump was elected, there were no counties in America that did not have an insurer."

"Wait, you're going to blame the problems with Obamacare on President Trump?" Wallace responded, interrupting Gruber.

He then attempted to defend his comment, saying that many insurance companies wanted to be in the markets and their profits were trending positively. Then Trump undercut open enrollment and didn’t honor the obligations Obamacare made to insurers, he argued, claiming that as a result, premiums went up and insurers are leaving.

Dozens of insurers left Obamacare’s exchanges prior to Trump taking office, however.
