Parsing the Pledge: What Do You Think?

The GOP rolled out their "Pledge to America" today to fanfare, praise, criticism, enthusiasm and disappointment. While there was a prevailing tone of negativity around here on the TH threads, some of you were on the optimistic side.

RodT: Good for them! At least it destroys the media’s mantra of “the party of no”. These are general positions that everyone can agree to, yet are not the type of things the media can attack on. There is not a single item in this list that MOST conservatives would deny need to be passed.

Denny: The entire list sounds like a mamby-pamby compromise from true blood RINOs attempting to appease a conservative base... They just blew whatever enthusiasm existed for November.

Darin: The "Contract with America" in 1994 promised several things... Didn't happen then, won't happen now. Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words.

DanNV: Parts of this plan as outlined above are solid goals... The rest of it is just boiler plate stuff that we have heard over the last two years. The tepid tone of this "Pledge" is indicative of the problem with Republicans.

Arby: I am a little surprised at the negativity on this thread. Yes -- let's be skeptical. Yes -- it's political. Yes, it doesn't go far enough or necessariliy in the right direction. But I am quite pleased with the GOP for at least taking this step. It's a step in the right direction, instead of simply being non-responsive (as they have been for many months) to the Marxist management of Pelosi and Reid, who are truly tearing this country down and trashing it at record speed.
