President Trump made a visit to Walter Reed Army Medical Center Thursday afternoon to visit wounded warriors injured overseas.
During his visit, the president awarded the Purple Heart to a soldier being treated at the facility.

According to the Department of Veteran's Affairs, the Purple Heart is, "one of the most recognized and respected medals awarded to members of the U.S. armed forces" and is America's older military award. It is earned by those injured or killed in action.
Meanwhile, Vice President Mike Pence made a surprise trip to Afghanistan today and will visit U.S. troops stationed in country just days before Christmas.
