The newest and largest US destroyer has been completed and is ready for sea trials. The USS Zumwalt is the newest version of the US Navy's guided missile destroyer arsenal and she weighs nearly 35,000 tons with a water displacement of more than 14,000 tons. At nearly 600 feet long, the ship is two football fields long with 20 MK 57 Vertical Launching Systems. Built by Bath Iron Works in Maine, the project started in 2008 and the vessel was launched from the shipyard in 2013.

Apparently, despite the ships large size, the radar cross-section material on the ship gives enemy radar the appearance of something no larger than a shipping boat.
Expect this behemoth of a weapon to become an active duty warship as early as next year.
