Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is one of many Democrats who are using Charlie Kirk’s death to push for gun control.

When it comes to Kirk’s assassination, Democrats are vacillating between mocking and celebrating the tragedy and exploiting it for a political agenda, namely, more restrictions on firearms.

While speaking with reporters at the Capitol, Ocasio-Cortez was asked what message she would have to her fellow lawmakers about “the political environment and the rhetoric” that is permeating American political discourse.

“You know, beyond rhetoric, we need to talk about action,” AOC began. “And we need to talk about, yes, there are words, but most importantly, we are in a job of leadership, we are in a job of action, we are in a role and a position where the American people are looking to us to do something about this.”

The lawmaker pointed out that “every single day, people are dying due to gun violence in America” and that there “are people in this building that continue to vote against doing anything.”’

She further criticized Republican lawmakers because they do not support legislation “to block the mentally ill, to block extremists, to block people with histories and records of domestic violence from getting guns in their hands.”

Ocasio-Cortez also downplayed the impact of the heated rhetoric coming from the left. “I mean, people can fingerpoint all they want,” she said. “Look at the record. Look at the actions of what we are doing. I don't think a single person who has dedicated their entire career to preventing gun safety legislation from getting passed in this house has any right to blame anybody else but themselves for what is happening.”

The lawmaker asked, “why don’t we start by acknowledging basic common sense, gun safety legislation, is not taking away a gun, is not attacking a Second Amendment, but it is about ensuring the safety of our children, of women, of people across this country, to ensure that guns and firearms do not get in the hands of people who are going to use them against human beings, period.”

Not surprisingly, AOC did not indicate which gun control laws would have prevented the assassination. Just as in the case of mass shootings, anti-gunners like AOC don’t put forth solutions. Instead, they only leverage tragedy to advocate for gun restrictions that don’t save lives.

It appears Kirk’s death is no different for anti-gunners, which is rather ironic given that Kirk was an ardent defender of gun rights. Nevertheless, Democrats are not letting this crisis go to waste.

Editor’s Note: The radical left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
