Awful: TSA Forces Cancer Survivor to Remove Prosthetic Breast

I have conflicted feelings about the ongoing TSA uproar  -- perhaps I'll have stronger feelings after my ritual groping at Reagan National Airport this afternoon -- but this story is emblematic of why so many people are disgusted by the federal government's invasive new protocols:

A local flight attendant and cancer survivor contacted WBTV after she says she was forced to show her prosthetic breast during a pat-down.

...She was walking through security when she says she was asked to go through the new full body-scanners at Concourse "D" at Charlotte Douglas International.   She reluctantly agreed.  As a 3-year breast cancer survivor she says she didn't want the added radiation through her body.  But, she says she did agree.

She says two female Charlotte T.S.A. agents took her to a private room and began what she calls an aggressive pat down.  She says they stopped when they got around to feeling her right breast… the one where she'd had surgery.

"She put her full hand on my breast and said, 'What is this?'.  And I said, 'It's my prosthesis because I've had breast cancer.' And she said, 'Well, you'll need to show me that'."

Cathy was asked to show her prosthetic breast, removing it from her bra.

"I did not take the name of the person at the time because it was just so horrific of an experience, I couldn't believe someone had done that to me.  I'm a flight attendant.  I was just trying to get to work."

That any woman would be subjected to this form of degradation is upsetting; that a flight attendant of 32 years would be forced to endure this ordeal is simply incredible.  It has been fascinating to watch the TSA's progression from an object of annoyance and ridicule to Public Enemy Number One in the span of a few days.  If a few more anecdotes like this seep out, the agency's approval rating might well plummet to ACORN levels.

Only 15% of voters now have even a somewhat favorable opinion of ACORN, while 67% have an unfavorable view of the group. Those figures include only three percent (3%) with a very favorable opinion and 47% with a very unfavorable view.
