Defeated Democrats Weep on House Floor

March 21, 2010:

Roll Call described Democrats' celebratory night on the town just after passing Obamacare:

HOH spies say the gaggle of jubilant Democrats included Rep. John Larson (Conn.), who got a roar of welcome when he entered the bar; Rep. Joe Crowley (N.Y.), who was briefly spotted standing behind the bar, handing out drinks; and Reps. John Boccieri (Ohio), Melissa Bean (Ill.), Jerry Costello (Ill.), Tom Perriello (Va.).

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), who had been the center of attention all weekend after resisting the abortion-related language in the bill but ultimately voting for the package, was among Tune Inn’s revelers. An HOH spy says Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) planted a giant kiss on Stupak’s cheek.

November 16, 2010:

Dejected Democrats wiped away tears on the House floor Monday night while Republicans congratulated themselves on winning back control of the lower chamber.

House members returned to the nation's capital for the first time since Republicans captured the House two weeks ago.

Freshman Rep. Debbie Halvorson (D-Ill.), who lost her reelection bid, wiped away tears as she hugged fellow members of the class of 2008, many of whom lost on Nov. 2.

Less than three feet away, ousted Nevada freshman Rep. Dina Titus (D) appeared to brush away some tears in a less obvious manner.

Fun facts: (1) Both tearful Democrats mentioned in today's story voted for Obamacare.  (2) Of the eight "jubilant" Democrats mentioned in the March excerpt, four were defeated on Election Night.  Justice.
