Sarah Sanders: Democrats 'Aren't Smart Enough' to Understand Trump's Tax Returns

It's Tax Day, and a good reminder that Democrats have given the IRS until April 23 to release President Trump’s tax returns. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that's not gonna happen. And, even if it did, she predicted Democrats wouldn't have a clue what they were reading.

“Frankly, Chris, I don’t think Congress, particularly not this group of congressmen and women, is smart enough to look through the thousands of pages that I would assume that President Trump’s taxes will be," Sanders said on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. "My guess is most of them don’t do their own taxes. I certainly don’t trust them to look through the decades of success that the president has and determine anything.”

“It is a disgusting overreach,” she added.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin also told the Democrats to keep walking.

"I want to make sure that the IRS is not weaponized like it was in the Nixon Administration, and you could imagine how dangerous it would be if the IRS was weaponized,” he said.

Perhaps in a way to prove their own transparency, some 2020 Democratic presidential candidates have pledged to release their own tax returns. Sens. Kamala Harris (D-CA), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who recently admitted to being a millionaire, will all release their returns.

Republicans have also scoffed at how Democrats have been misleading us into thinking those lower tax refunds (down by about $6 billion from last year) are a bad thing. It's actually a good sign, others explained. The Tax Policy Center found that nearly two-thirds of Americans received a tax cut. A lower tax refund means that fewer taxes were taken out of your paycheck during the year.
