Pro-lifers are praising the White House’s decision to end U.S. funding of the United Nations Population Fund.
The UNFPA “supports, or participates in the management of, a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization,” the State Department explained in a letter to Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Bob Corker (R-TN) on Monday.
The presidents of the Susan B. Anthony List and the National Right to Life thanked the administration for redirecting funds from an agency they say buoys China’s inhumane one-child policy.
.@unfpa supports China's inhumane program of forced abortion. Thank you @realDonaldTrump! https://t.co/7nM6V8Yhl6

Thank you @realDonaldTrump & @StateDept for redirecting UNFPA funds away from China and its coercive abortion/sterilization policy. #ProLife

There's proof. LifeNews detailed the UNFPA's history of complicity in China's pro-abortion agenda. In 1998, the UNFPA took over the management of birth control in the country, establishing Model Birth Control Counties. However, after an investigation, it was discovered that these counties under the UNFPA's discretion enforced the one child policy and other pregnancy regulations just as much as in other counties. In China, if women violate the one child policy, they are often forced to undergo abortions.
The UNFPA, however, in response to Trump's funding freeze, rejected the claim they are complicit in China’s abortion policy. They guilted the White House for cutting aid to its “lifesaving work.”

Progressives also rejected the White House's claims. Liberal outlets ranging from The New York Times to The Guardian claim Trump just gutted family planning programs. The Guttmacher Institute even predicted doom for women and girls.
BREAKING: Trump admin is eliminating U.S. funding for @UNFPA, putting at risk the health & rights of millions of women & girls. #fundUNFPA

Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards also condemned the White House's move on Twitter, sharing a Huffington Post article that deems the defunding of the UNFPA "cruel and dangerous."
What Richards and the Guttmacher Institute did not mention is that those dollars are being redirected to the U.S. Agency for International Development, which provides medical care to families across the world.
Trump's pro-life agenda has also included the reinstating of the Mexico City Policy, which prohibits taxpayer money to fund groups that perform abortions overseas.
Next stop: defunding Planned Parenthood.
