Gorsuch: I Have No Problem Ruling Against President’s Wishes, It’s a ‘Softball’ Question

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) kicked off day two of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation hearing by asking the candidate if he’d be able to distance his opinions from President Trump.

“That’s a softball Mr. Chairman,” Gorsuch said. “I have no problem ruling against any party.”

If confirmed, Gorsuch said he would simply decide cases as the law requires.

“There’s no such thing as a Republican judge or a Democratic judge,” he emphasized. “We just have judges in this country."

His judicial philosophy puts value upon independence and the separation of powers. He would focus on "administering justice" above all.

“You want someone who will put politics aside,” he added.

In other words, he will leave his personal agenda at home.

Gorsuch also practiced judicial independence from the executive branch back in February when he reportedly criticized Trump's treatment of federal judges behind closed doors.
