Canadian Politics Has Descended Into A Meme War

Meanwhile, north of the border...

In one of the stranger stories in recent political memory, the upcoming Conservative Party leadership race in Canada has morphed into an online meme war between supporters of Maxime Bernier and supporters of Erin O'Toole.

O'Toole took offense to a short video posted on a "Maximeme Bernier" page (that is not affiliated with his campaign) that depicted one of his brochures being lit on fire with a blowtorch.

The vast majority of the images shared on the "Maximeme Bernier" page are harmless and somewhat funny. O'Toole and other leadership candidate Andrew Scheer are the target of the jokes, along with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The Conservative Party's leadership election will be held on May 27, 2017.
