33 Minutes: Protecting America in the New Missile Age

I'm stoked about a new documentary from the Heritage Foundation, "33 Minutes: Protecting America in the New Missile Age," that is premiering tonight at Heritage's D.C. headquarters (of course, anything about missile defense is exciting to me) -- and from what I've seen in the previews, read online, and been told by our Heritage friends, I have every reason to be.

We need this powerful and useful tool in helping the American people why we need missile defense -- and why we need it now.
A ballistic missile from a foreign enemy would take 33 minutes to reach the United States. With each passing day, this becomes a growing danger to America, yet our government has failed to build the missile defense systems capable of defending us against such attacks.

Our enemies are attempting to stockpile arsenals that threaten our freedom and prosperity. North Korea and Iran are the most prominent, but this also includes Russia, China and other nations that have missiles capable of killing Americans in very large numbers and threatening our allies.

The time has come to revive the strategic missile defense system that America uniquely can develop, maintain, and employ for its own defense and the peace-loving world's security.

This documentary aims to do just that by highlighting the disastrous consequences of a nuclear explosion on American soil -- one that could happen in just 33 minutes.
This new film echoes, with powerful cinematography, the poignant piece by Townhall contributor and Heritage expert Peter Brookes in the February 2009 issue of Townhall magazine (subscribe).

What's the significance of the title "33 Minutes"? According to the website for the film:

Heritage has released several videos relevant to the film, including movie clips, educational missile footage and a couple stirring trailers (see below). The documentary website also has important articles, research and a missile defense blog, free to anyone wanting to know more about this important issue.

Very importantly, the website can hook anyone up with an opportunity to host a screening for their community. Regardless of whether the group has 1,000 or 100, Heritage will not only provide hosts with all the material needed to offer the screening, but they will publicize the event and supply materials for the guests.
