Much of the impetus for the change seems to be driven by China. Good thing

the President is trying to curry favor with the Chinese by stiffing the Dalai Lama in defiance of all precedent -- that'll surely change China's mind, right?

Recently, it has seemed as though US interests are subject to increasingly bold and overt hostility. The problem is that, by all appearances, we have a President who either can't or won't stand up for this country and its legitimate interests with the unapologetic public passion and commitment that he has, so far, reserved only for failed efforts to win the Olympics. And worse yet, the leaders of other countries know it.
