Does the Luster Dim?

Viewership for Barack Obama's YouTube "fireside chats" has dropped by more than 50%.

That's to be expected, of course -- most normal people don't pay all that much attention to the nitty gritty and minutiae of politics day in, day out.  They simply want their elected officials to do their jobs honestly and effectively.

What will be interesting is to see what the drop-off in viewership portends.  Does it signal a growing tendency to take Obama for granted -- a sort of morphing of his image from political celebrity/Obamessiah into "just another politician," viewed with skepticism and a dose of disappointed acceptance?  Or will Obama be able to hang on to a sense of generalized public good will and liking, as Ronald Reagan always did, where voters might not know the details of what he's doing, but they're supporting him in principle and in fact?
