During her Fox New town hall on Sunday night, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) talked about how the National Rifle Association (NRA) is the "worst organization in the country." Host Chris Wallace pushed back and called her out for her previous support of the gun rights organization.
The NRA reminded Second Amendment supporters and gun control advocates of Gillibrand's blatant hypocrisy. The organization shared a copy of a 2008 letter they received from Gillibrand, thanking the NRA for their work to protect gun rights in America, the same letter that was shared weeks ago.
Gillibrand called us the worst org in the country, but when she represented NY20, she wrote us: “I appreciate the work that the NRA does to protect gun owners rights, and I look forward to working with you for many years.” Now that she’s looking to crack 1%, she’ll say anything. pic.twitter.com/uW5OgpUa5B

Conservatives thought the response was laughable. After all, Gillibrand left a paper trail. There's no way she can dispute her past.
Sen. Gillibrand supported the Second Amendment and @NRA before she didn't.

It's funny how time, running statewide in NY, and forgetting where you came from can changes things.... https://t.co/CJ6BLxeuaZ
Looks like she needed to put an asterisk after "many years." https://t.co/B4lrIHJ9S9

Everyone knows Gillibrand is an opportunistic flip-flopper, but the NRA has receipts. https://t.co/8L7FOR2s9n

Hey @SenGillibrand, The @NRA is the only civil rights organization that will defend the rights of any American regardless of party. Think about it. #2A https://t.co/1Qo2Vh6Zid

Hours later though, Gillibrand decided to double down and still push her anti-NRA position.
The NRA is lying to the American people. The chokehold they have on our laws is not about the Second Amendment. It is about gun sales. It is about greed and corruption. It is about making sure the status quo—thousands dying every year—stays the same. pic.twitter.com/ZvDfRZLvg0

Guess she's really trying to make the DNC debate stage...or trying to convince anti-gunners (and herself) that their gun control policies will actually make a difference in this country.
Wow. @SenGillibrand and her team are ballsy. The @NRA calls her out for her hypocrisy and she doubles down. She must really want to be on that debate stage. https://t.co/KZhDqUbk7w

People like Gillibrand upset Americans across the board. If you believe in gun control, fine. Stick to it. Defend it. If you believe in the Second Amendment, fine. Stick to it. Defend it. But pick a side and stick to it. I'm not saying people can't grow and change their point-of-view but this is straight up political pandering. She didn't just alienate one side. She's alienated everyone.
