Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) took aim at the National Rifle Association on Sunday during her town hall on Fox News. She set herself up to be this strong proponent of gun control laws and legislation. In fact, she criticized the NRA and made a number of false statements about the pro-gun group. She also seemed to forget that before she ran for the Senate, she wrote a letter to the NRA, praising the group for their work to protect the Second Amendment. In that letter, she said she wanted to work with the pro-Second Amendment organization.
Suddenly she's doing a complete 180, calling the group the "worst organization in this country." She also pushed the false narrative that the NRA "sells guns" to people. She must have missed the memo: the NRA represents the average gun owner, not gun manufacturers. In fact, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) is the firearms industry trade association. That group represents gun manufacturers.
Kirsten Gillibrand: “The NRA is the worst organization in this country. They care more about their profits than the American people, they care more about selling guns to someone on the terror watch list or w/grave mental illness or who has a violent criminal background”

She says the NRA wants people with mental illness and a violent criminal background to obtain firearms. She must not know that those with a criminal history are prohibited possessors.
Her "proposals" are things that have already been done or tried.
She wants to ban bump stocks, which was already done back in March.
She wants to ban "assault rifles," and we can only guess what her definition is.
She wants universal background checks yet we haven't made the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) wholesome. Makes total sense to expand failed policies.

Chris Wallace calls out Kirsten Gillibrand over her gun-control plans, noting none of them would have stopped the Virginia Beach tragedy: “Is there anything you could have done that would have stopped this terrible incident?”

Gillibrand: “Yeah, stop being beholden to the NRA” pic.twitter.com/GMSU9yW9EQ
And, apparently these policies would have done so much to prevent the tragic shooting in Virginia Beach that Gillibrand can't even name them.
Kirsten Gillibrand: “Remember, after the shooting in Las Vegas [Trump] said, ‘we’re going to ban the bump stocks.’ Did he ban the bump stocks? No! Because the NRA came crashing down”

She's mimicking the typical anti-gun talking points that are half-truths or full lies.

At least Fox News' Chris Wallace pushed back, calling her out on her flip flopping. And she must have known she was wrong if she can't even explain herself.
Wallace grills Gillibrand: “Your campaign slogan is ‘Brave Wins,’ but when you [represented] a conservative district…you took pretty conservative positions on guns…once you became the Senator for the entire liberal state of NY, you flipped. How is that brave?”

Wallace continues to grill Gillibrand over her complete flip on gun issues: “It sounds a lot more like it’s politics than principles… how do you explain the change?”

Gillibrand responds by screaming about the Golden Rule and blaming the NRA pic.twitter.com/cLDNr3Xvbe
The truth of the matter is, no one can trust Gillibrand when it comes to the issue of gun rights and gun control. One minute she's in favor of the Second Amendment and protecting it. The next minute she's wanting to ban anything and everything related to firearms. She's unpredictable and she goes whichever the way the wind blows. She's full of hot air and is looking to score cheap political points with whoever she thinks will give her the most votes. Clearly, Gillibrand is self-serving, like most politicians, and has no principles.
