ICYMI: VA Democratic Congressman Knew About Lt. Gov's Sexual Assault Allegation For Months

While President Trump declaring a national emergency may have pushed these stories down, make no mistake; the mess in Virginia will always be there until Gov. Ralph Northam, Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, and state Attorney General Mark Herring resign. These three have imploded the state party.  Herring and Northam have admitted t wearing blackface. Fairfax has been slapped with two allegations of sexual assault. Neither one can leave for it will trigger pressure for the entire threesome to get the hell out of Richmond. If these three were to resign, then the Republicans would take over the state government. This is and always has been about power. With Northam wielding the race card to smear his opponents during the 2017 elections, the hypocrisy of this latest development is just too delicious. The ‘fight racism’ candidate…engaged in racist antics. Oh, and let’s not forget that he pretty much-endorsed infanticide, which set off this whole chain of events. Yet, let’s get back to Fairfax. Apparently, it wasn’t just The Washington Post who knew for a long time; the publication refused to go with the first accuser’s story because they could corroborate it. Members of Virginia’s congressional delegation knew for months as well (via Axios):

Aides to Virginia Democratic Rep. Bobby Scott told ABC News Wednesday that the congressman learned about Dr. Vanessa Tyson's sexual allegations against Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax in late December 2017 and early January 2018.

Details: Aides claim that in October 2017, Scott received an email from Tyson — who he says he has known for about a decade — in which she expressed that she was "not a fan" of then-candidate Fairfax. In December 2017, Tyson told Scott that Fairfax had a "MeToo allegation," but did not explain that she was the accuser. She later told the congressman that she had spoken to the Washington Post about the incident and gave his name as a character witness.

Of course, Fairfax has denied both allegations, saying the encounter with Tyson, the first accuser, was consensual. He’s also vowed not to resign, though his staff has been jumping ship. The second accuser, Meredith Watson, is what caused the staff exodus, along with shaking his base of support (via NYT):

A second woman came forward Friday with claims that she had been sexually assaulted by Lt. Gov. Justin E. Fairfax of Virginia, intensifying the weeklong political crisis in the state and leading top fellow Democrats to call for Mr. Fairfax to resign.

The woman, Meredith Watson, accused Mr. Fairfax of raping her in 2000 while they were students at Duke University, saying in a statement that his actions were “premeditated and aggressive” and demanding that he step down immediately.

[…]

Mr. Fairfax has denied both accusations and said Ms. Watson’s was “demonstrably false.” He vowed he would not resign.

“I demand a full investigation into these unsubstantiated and false allegations,” Mr. Fairfax said. “Such an investigation will confirm my account because I am telling the truth.”

After days of intense pressure on the state’s Democratic governor and attorney general over past incidents when they wore blackface, the spotlight swung quickly to Mr. Fairfax, who only days ago had been preparing for the possibility of becoming the state’s second African-American governor if Gov. Ralph Northam bowed to calls to resign.

It’s a mess worthy of Democrats who weaponized Me Too against Brett Kavanaugh; accuse those they hate of racism (and yes, all the accusations are trash), and splash around in the toxic pool that is identity politics. Democrats deserve this fiasco. There were scenarios where it was very possible that the two white dudes who did blackface stay, but the black attorney general has to go. It sucks when your rules are used against you, huh? The sad part now is that Democrats won’t be held accountable for this dumpster fire. So, you can see why the Democratic Party is so appealing. You can do whatever you want and not be held accountable.
