Trump's Monday Morning Tweetstorm: NFL, NASCAR, and Tax Cuts

President Trump continued to weigh in on NFL players refusing to stand for the National Anthem, saying Monday the issue is not about race but respect.

“The issue of kneeling has nothing to do with race. It is about respect for our Country, Flag and National Anthem. NFL must respect this!” he wrote.

“Many people booed the players who kneeled yesterday (which was a small percentage of total). These are fans who demand respect for our Flag!”

The president also commented on an Associated Press report about the attitude of some NASCAR team owners toward protesting the National Anthem and the fact that no one—drivers, crew, or anyone else—kneeled during the Anthem at the NASCAR Cup series in Loudon, New Hampshire, Sunday.

“So proud of NASCAR and its supporters and fans. They won't put up with disrespecting our Country or our Flag - they said it loud and clear!” he said.

Richard Childress of Richard Childress Racing said any of his team members who protested would get a “ride on a Greyhound bus.”

While Richard Petty of Richard Petty Motorsports said he’d fire any of his team members if they wouldn’t stand, going so far as to say Anthem protesters “oughta be out of the country.”

Trump commented on the issue several times over the weekend on Twitter and on Friday during a rally in Alabama.

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. He is fired,' " Trump said.

Finally, the president commented on the upcoming week.

“Important meetings taking place today,” he said. “Big tax cuts & reform.”
