Ryan Dismisses Talk of Democratic Takeover in 2018

House Speaker Paul Ryan dismissed talk of a Democratic takeover of Congress in 2018 Friday morning in an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt.

“Blah blah blah blah blah is what I think about that stuff,” Ryan told Hewitt, adding that it’s nothing more than “white noise of [the] Washington-Beltway media.”

The Speaker then rattled off a series of actions members of the House took this week he said the media has totally ignored.

Democrats have been giddy over their chances of taking back the House and Senate in 2018 as the Trump administration comes under repeated fire over questions about Russian interference in the 2016 election.

This week, the White House was rocked by the allegation that Trump tried to shut down the FBI’s investigation of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. A separate report also emerged claiming that he shared classified information with top Russian officials during an Oval Office meeting.

Ryan acknowledged the administration is going through a rough patch but remained optimistic nonetheless.

“He clearly did have a bad two weeks,” Ryan said. “It’s my hope that he rights the ship and keeps going. … We’re still doing our work. We’re still going to deliver.”
