Breaking: Gianforte Wins Montana Special Election Despite Assault Charge

Republican Greg Gianforte won the special election for Montana's seat in the U.S. House of Representatives just days after slamming a reporter to the ground.

Gianforte was charged with misdemeanor assault Wednesday after he slammed Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs to the ground according to audio and a Fox News crew that was at the scene. 

The New York Times latest tally had Gianforte winning just after midnight Friday with 51 percent of the vote compared to Democratic candidate Rob Quist's 44 percent with 77 percent of the vote in.
