"Keep Piers Morgan in the USA"

After an official White House petition to deport Piers Morgan for his attacks on the 2nd Amendment gained steam over the Christmas weekend, the British have been fighting back.

They don't want him either.

We want to keep Piers Morgan in the USA.

There are two very good reasons for this. Firstly, the first amendment.

Second and the more important point. No one in the UK wants him back.

This one hasn't gone as viral as the previous one - perhaps partly because there are precious few Brits who are registered as users on the White House petition website - and it's only garnered a few hundred signatures so far. At 25,000 signatures, the Obama Administration has promised to issue a response to these petitions, but has broken that promise in the past.

Tim Worstall, a London-based writer for Forbes, has published an exposition of why the Brits don't particularly want Morgan back:

One reason being that when editor of the Daily Mirror Morgan published some clearly fake photos of British troops abusing Iraqis. That cost him his job and a great deal of whatever goodwill he might have had.

Whether it’s right or wrong, a good idea or not, part of that founding myth of the US is that the citizenry picked up their guns and killed enough of the Brits that the latter left and the country was free. Thus the citizenry must be allowed to bear arms.

Please note, this is nothing at all about the politics, about modern weapons, who argues for what. It’s just that as an outsider (and I’ve lived in the US, just as Morgan is doing now) you’ve got to be pretty unperceptive not to note that this is part of what the country thinks about itself. Guns gained our freedom thus we must keep our guns to keep our freedom: that really is a strong strain of thought through US society.
