Netanyahu on Jerusalem Decision: We Are Profoundly Grateful

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a response to President Trump's official recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capitol city Wednesday afternoon.

"Thank you for today's historic decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital. The Jewish people and the Jewish state will be forever grateful," Netanyahu said. "We're profoundly grateful for @POTUS for his courageous and just decision."

"Israel will always ensure freedom of worship for Jews, Christians and Muslims alike," he continued.

Shortly after Trump's announcement, the Israeli and U.S. flags were illuminated on the Old City walls.

President Trump was hosted by Netanyahu and his wife, Sarah, in their Jerusalem home earlier this year.

All Israeli Defense Force units have been put on high alert after Palestinian leaders called for "days of rage" in response to the recognition.
