DHS Secretary: We Caught a Bunch of Violent Criminal Aliens But Haven't Deported Them, Hundreds Given Amnesty

Testifying in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson explained that although the Department has a number of violent criminal aliens in custody, they haven't been deported.

Criminal illegal alien and gang member Jesus Rangel-Hernandez, who was scheduled for deportation but saved at the last minute by President Obama's DACA program, has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder in North Carolina. Under questioning from Senator Chuck Grassley, Johnson admitted that lapses in the DHS background check system allowed hundreds of aliens like Rangel-Hernandez to stay, putting the safety of Americans risk.

“Secretary Johnson’s comments today suggest a broader systemic problem in the application process. Two hundred eighty-two cases is more than a ‘handful,’ and there needs to be a better effort to provide greater detail on exactly where breakdowns occurred in the DACA application process that ended deportation procedures for at least one known gang member who now is facing four murder charges," Grassley said in a statement after the hearing. "All it takes is one lapse to lead to tragedy, but USCIS has admitted to at least 282 mistakes. There could be more. This is a significant risk to public safety and national security being created by the failed implementation of a legally-questionable action by the president. Americans deserve a government that protects their wellbeing, not one that welcomes dangerous criminals with open arms.

Over the past three years, DHS has released more than 60,000 violent criminal aliens, with convictions like homicide and sexual assault, onto American streets.
