Jimmy Carter's Grandson is Running for Georgia Governor Seat

If we know anything, it’s that having Carter as your last name must mean you will make a great politician. It has been suspected for a while, but Georgia state Sen. Jason Carter, former President Carter’s grandson, will run for the Georgia governor seat.

Carter will be challenging incumbent Governor Nathan Deal. He told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he would be taking a run at the seat today.

"We can’t wait as a state," he tells the paper. "The bottom line is we can’t afford four more years of an economy that’s not working for the middle class and an education system that's underfunded. It's not about politics. It’s about making sure we can get the state that we need."

Georgia is known for being a solid red state, but Carter joins Michelle Nunn (running for the U.S. Senate) as two strong democratic candidates for state level seats. The Democrats are definitely hopeful that they can appeal to a changing demographic when it comes to minority populations, especially in Atlanta. But I definitely wouldn’t count on the state turning blue. Definitely not for a Carter either.
