Video: Reacting to John McCain's Farewell Letter

After Sen. John McCain was diagnosed with terminal cancer last year, he dedicated himself to crafting a farewell message to the nation he loved so deeply, and for which he'd sacrificed so much.  He penned a letter to the American people, asking that it be shared with the pubic upon his death.  Longtime McCain friend, confidante and aide Rick Davis fulfilled the late Senator's wishes yesterday, reading the moving missive to reporters:

I happened to be a guest on Fox News Channel's Outnumbered Overtime that hour, and we discarded our planned topic in order to react to the breaking news.  Here are my immediate thoughts, shared moments after Davis' rendition of McCain's words concluded:

I'll leave you with my on-air discussion with Howard Kurtz about McCain's complicated relationship with the media.  Despite quite a lot of mutual respect built up over many years, the press turned on McCain in 2008, when the stakes were highest -- and when their urgent priority was to glorify and boost someone else:
