Don Lemon: Ted Cruz Getting Harassed 'Comes With the Territory'

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and his wife Heidi were chased out of a restaurant in Washington, D.C. this week. As you can see, some people were thrilled about it.

Others were horrified, including even Cruz's Democratic challenger Beto O'Rourke, who tweeted that the Cruz family "should be treated with respect."

CNN anchor Don Lemon also is uncomfortable with the harassment. But, on his program Tuesday night, he said that kind of verbal bullying "goes with the territory" of serving in Congress."

"In a way, I think it goes with the territory," Lemon said. "I don’t like that they were blocking his wife, but that’s what he signed up for. And as a strict constitutionalist, which Ted Cruz is, he knows it is protected under the First Amendment."

"I don’t like it," he added. "I don’t like it happening to his wife. That’s what he signed up for. That’s part of the deal.”

So, I guess other Trump cabinet members deserved their own forms of harassment. Sarah Huckabee Sanders must have deserved being bullied out of the Red Hen Restaurant in Virginia, Mitch McConnell must have deserved to be chewed out by protesters after dining in Louisville, and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirsten Nielsen must have deserved to be heckled at MXDC Cocina Mexicana.

MEDIA TED CRUZ

Perhaps these activists are just acting out the orders of Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), who in June told supporters to confront Trump staffers in gas stations, restaurants, while out shopping, etc.

“I don’t like it, but it is one reason I’m not a public official, that I’m not running for office," Lemon said.
