'Morning Joe' Anchors Respond With an Op-ed: Is Trump 'Mentally Equipped'?

President Trump's tweets dominated news coverage again Thursday. Every reporter in the White House briefing room demanded to know if his insults against "Morning Joe" anchors Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinksi crossed the line.

For a refresher:

Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders could only do her job and defend the president, who she says is only "fighting fire with fire" against a news media that is constantly attacking him.

Yet, most everyone else, even top Republicans, cringed at the president's early morning insults.

Scarborough and Brzezinski have now responded via an op-ed in The Washington Post, questioning the president's mental fitness.

"President Trump launched personal attacks against us Thursday, but our concerns about his unmoored behavior go far beyond the personal," the show hosts write. "America’s leaders and allies are asking themselves yet again whether this man is fit to be president. We have our doubts, but we are both certain that the man is not mentally equipped to continue watching our show, 'Morning Joe.'"

The pair also weighed in on their show Friday, noting the man in the White House is not the man they once knew. He used to "always be in on the joke" when he came on "Morning Joe," Scarborough recalled. Then, his "emotional state" changed.
