Van Jones: The Clintons No Longer Represent the Democratic Party

CNN contributor Van Jones, known for his liberal commentary, has just admitted one of the more obvious conclusions of the 2016 election: The Clintons have officially been kicked out of the political spotlight.

“The Clinton days are over,” Jones said on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday morning, adding that it's time true progressives take control of the Democratic Party.

“This idea that we’re going to be this moderate party that’s going to move in this direction, that’s going to throw blacks under the bus for criminal justice reform and — or for — for prison expansion, that’s going to throw workers under the bus for NAFTA, those days are over,” he said.

Jones' assessment is corroborated by how much momentum Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders gained in the Democratic primary. The "democratic socialist" candidate was to the left of Hillary Clinton on basically every issue and slammed the eventual nominee for her close ties to Wall Street. Young progressives ate his message up and as a result he was able to win some surprise victories during the campaign.

Jones said the future of the party lies with liberal politicians like California senator-elect Kamala Harris and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), the latter of whom is a top candidate for the new DNC chair.
