Rubio Comes to Comey's Defense

Not all Republicans are ready to turn James Comey into the villain again after the FBI's latest exoneration of Hillary Clinton. In an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt on Monday, he insisted the FBI director was only doing his job.

“Comey did not do anything inappropriate, and it’s amazing that all of these people were lifting him up as a hero two or three or four months ago. And now he’s a villain because they don’t like what he did,” Rubio said.

He couldn't be more right. Last week, the Clinton campaign accused Comey of a double standard and said his behavior was "jaw dropping." Now, they are pleased the matter is "resolved," with Clinton press secretary Brian Fallon suggesting they knew all along the FBI will come to the same conclusion they did in July: that Clinton

Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway called out their hypocrisy on Twitter.

"Director Comey was responding to a direct inquiry from Congress, period," Rubio continued. "He didn’t put that out there unilaterally. He was asked a specific question by a committee of oversight, and he responded."

The Florida senator added that the investigation into the Clinton Foundation is still ongoing and that Congress will be "aggressively" pursuing it in the next few months. But, if the Democrats retake the Senate, he predicts that investigation will come to a full stop.
