North Carolina Stands by Bathroom Law and Sues Federal Government After Justice Dept Threat

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory is following up his outraged rhetoric against Obama’s Justice Department with a lawsuit. The federal agency threatened to strip his state of federal funding if he didn’t scrap the bathroom law, a ruling that requires transgender people to use the bathroom that corresponds to their birth certificates when using a public restroom. The government has argued that the law violates the Civil Rights Act. McCrory, however, stands by it and says the Obama administration is acting like a “bully.”

In his court challenge, McCrory said the government is engaging in “baseless and blatant overreach.”

The governor will hold a press conference on his decision to sue the agency Monday at 1 p.m.
