A new Gallup Poll suggests that 13 percent, or more than one in eight, adults currently smoke marijuana. This is nearly double the seven percent figure found in the 2013 poll.
Nearly half--43 percent--of adults admit to have trying marijuana in the past.
Currently, Oregon, Alaska, Colorado, Washington, and the District of Columbia have legalized marijuana for recreational use, and over half of the states have some form of legalized medicinal cannabis laws on the books. In November, Maine, California, Nevada, and Massachusetts will be voting on whether or not to legalize marijuana for recreational use.
