Drug Offender Commuted by Obama Re-Arrested...on Drug Charges

A drug offender, whose life sentence was commuted by former President Barack Obama, has landed himself back in prison for - you guessed it - possession of drugs.

68-year-old Robert M. Gill from Texas is one of 1,715 criminals whose sentences Obama commuted during his eight years in office. He was released in 2015 after serving 25 years for cocaine and heroine distribution.

However, after two years on the straight and narrow working as a paralegal in a San Antonio law office, the Texan man decided to revert to his old ways.

Last week, a few hours after meeting with his probation officers, Gill purchased over two pounds of cocaine in a grocery store parking lot.

A sheriff’s deputy in an unmarked car witnessed the exchange and tired to pull Gill over. However, he sped away. During the high-speed chase, Gill crashed into another vehicle. He attempted to flee again, but failed.

Gill is being charged with possession and intent to sell. If convicted he faces another five to 40 years in prison.
