Uh CNN, Milwaukee Shooting Victim’s Sister Was Not Really Condemning The Violence

Well, it’s another episode of the liberal media selectively editing footage—with CNN making some cuts to show the sister of Milwaukee shooting victim Sylville Smith, Sherelle, “calling for peace.” She wasn’t doing that—at all. She can be clearly saying to take the chaos to the suburbs.

Kristine Marsh of Newsbusters caught ways CNN tried to spin her remarks on air and on their website. First, their website, which has since replaced the original text. Here’s what Newsbusters found in the CNN story when it was first published on their site:

Smith's sister Sherelle Smith condemned the violence, saying the community needs the businesses affected. "Don't bring that violence here," [Kimberley] Neal, his other sister, said while sobbing.

Here’s what it says now:

Smith's sister Kimberly Neal mourned a brother she described as a high school graduate who played basketball, not a "man with a lengthy arrest record" described by police.

"He should have been tased, if anything," she said.

And now the video:

This is what they left out [Warning: language]:

Burning down sh*t ain’t going to help nothing. Y’all burning down sh*t we need in our community. Take that sh*t to the suburbs. Burn that sh*t down. We need our s**t. We need our weaves. I don’t wear it, but we need it.”

That’s not exactly condemning the violence. Mayor Tom Barrett also said that while he hasn’t seen the body-cam footage taken by the officer involved in the shooting, he did see a still showing that Smith had a gun. He was also shot in the chest and arm, not in the back.
