Conservative activist Scott LoBaido was pronounced dead for two minutes after suffering a cardiac arrest during a pro-police event in which Mayor Zohran Mamdani spoke. While still recovering, LoBaido managed to have a banner fly across the city warning for Mamdani to stay away from Ground Zero. The New York-based conservative artist and activist is known for his thousands of paintings of the American Flag, as well as his vehement opposition to Mamdani, who he believes is destroying the city and its principles.

LoBaido, 61, suffered a ventricular fibrillation last Tuesday, August 5, after organizing a protest against Mamdani ahead of his speech at NYPD's National Night Out Against Crime event. Video footage shows LoBaido being restrained while shouting as the Mayor enters the stage. Mamdani was essentially booed off the stage by the crowd, which was riled up over Mamdani's presence at a pro-police event, and his likely attendance at the upcoming 9/11 memorial despite numerous calls for his absence.
Moments after, LoBaido fell to his knee and was sent to Staten Island University Hospital Northwell Health where doctors placed a defibrillator in his heart on Thursday. According to reports, LoBaido was resuscitated once using CPR and twice using a defibrillator after he flatlined.
According to the New York Post, Mamdani remarked on the protest, saying, “Thank you to my brother, Scott LoBaido, a great artist, but we disagree on politics."
LoBaido is known for his countless paintings of the American Flag as well as his fiery opposition to the radical Left, especially socialist Mamdani and his stances on police and 9/11. Just last month, LoBaido was featured in Washington, D.C.'s Great America State Fair, where he completed the largest canvas oil painting of the American Flag while interacting with visitors and fans, and posting progress updates on social media. He is also circulating a petition to install a permanent flag at Ground Zero.
"Do I regret getting so worked up? No. The problem isn’t that I care too much. The problem is too many people don’t care enough. Complacency is far more dangerous than passion,” LoBaido told Townhall through his manager Dan Caropreso.
