Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has announced that the United States is developing a series of nuclear-powered container ships that will “change the game and dominate China.”

Duffy says that the new fleet of ships will be able to deliver more cargo, operate up to 75 percent faster, and output zero emissions through clean, nuclear energy. Duffy indicated that the Transportation Department has fast-tracked the production of the fleet, meaning that the first ship of its kind will be launched in just two years.

The United States Navy currently operates a fleet of 82 nuclear-powered ships, including 11 massive aircraft carriers that are able to operate indefinitely with a near-infinite range. Duffy believes that the newest iteration of cargo ship will be a key component to maintaining American maritime dominance.
