I can't help but notice that the Left has a very odd definition of parental rights. If you want to sterilize and mutilate your kid in the name of trans ideology, the government shouldn't have a say in that. It's a sacrosanct decision between parents, the kid, and the doctor. If you strangle your children to death, you're a hero and your monstrous crime is excused as "postpartum psychosis" while women praise your lawyer as a "feminist icon."

When I was first married, my husband and I lived in a four-family apartment building on the north side of Milwaukee. Something felt off about the neighbor downstairs, and we noticed she always left her eldest child, a son, home with her toddler. She was constantly screaming at them, and the toddler was always crying. Then the apartment lost power; we saw the disconnect notice on the door. So we called family services because someone had to do something. They left a card on the door; a few days later, she fled and left the apartment absolutely trashed.

When I taught, I saw that pattern, too. There was a family that had a reputation of jumping from school to school as soon as CPS got involved, and CPS needed to get involved.

You're only a monster if you do things like let your kids walk to the playground in your gated community, or you leave your children home alone, safe in their own house.

Parkinson is not alone. Binion's thread is full of moms who faced similar problems. Brittany Patterson was jailed for letting her 10-year-old son walk alone in his rural town. Alexandra Woodward was arrested for "child cruelty" for leaving her eight- and 10-year-old boys home for a couple of hours.

I don't see a single GoFundMe raising millions for them. Women don't wear pink in solidarity. Their lawyers are not "feminist icons."

Gee, it's weird how these aren't those "low-level crimes" that socialists like Emily Gallagher don't want to prosecute. But once again, the government shows it's easier to go after law-abiding citizens on trumped-up charges than to actually go after criminals or actual child abusers. This is not what a free country does. It's especially ironic that some of this happened in Virginia, where prosecutors like Steve Descano haven't met an actual, violent criminal they didn't love (or help flee the country).

It reinforces my theory that the socialists who squawk about "defunding the police" and "abolishing the prisons" won't actually do that. Instead of putting the armed robber or murderer behind bars, they'll throw moms like Karyann Parkinson and Brittany Patterson in the slammer. This also helps the Left accomplish another one of their goals: the destruction of the family. Eventually, these non-crimes will result in parents losing custody. They're already doing this with "trans" kids, it's only logical — albeit evil and wrong — to say that "endangering" your children by letting them walk to the playground warrants losing your parental rights.

The state knows better, after all.
