Hillary Teams Up With Steven Spielberg for New TV Project

Hillary Clinton is taking a pretty drastic career turn. The former secretary of state/presidential candidate is teaming up with Steven Spielberg to help produce a new TV series called The Woman's Hour, based off of the book authored by Elaine Weiss, which tells the story of the women who successfully fought for women's right to vote.

Clinton met author Elaine Weiss after being moved by her book. She knew it needed to be adapted for the screen, particularly because it paralleled modern politics, she explained in a recent statement. So, she jumped at the chance to work with Spielberg and Amblin TV on the project.

"At the heart of democracy lies the ballot box, and Elaine Weiss' unforgettable book tells the story of the female leaders who — in the face of towering economic, racial and political opposition — fought for and won American women's right to vote," Clinton said of the new project. "Unfolding over six weeks in the summer of 1920, The Woman's Hour is both a page-turning drama and an inspiration for everyone, young and old, male and female, in these perilous times. So much could have gone wrong, but these American women would not take no for an answer: their triumph is our legacy to guard and emulate. I am thrilled to be working with Elaine, Steven and everyone at Amblin Television on bringing this important project to audiences everywhere."

Bustle suggested that by referencing "these perilous times," Clinton is referring to "the many political attacks against organizations like Planned Parenthood, the threat of the Supreme Court repealing Roe v. Wade and attacks on American voter's rights after the 2016 election, not to mention the recent exposure of sexual misconduct in so many professional fields."

Clinton will reportedly be helping to find a director or screenwriter for the series.
