By now, the world knows that Code Pink, accompanied by people like terrorist-sympathizing streamer Hasan Piker, went down to Cuba, ostensibly to deliver humanitarian supplies, and ended up partying and enjoying five-star accommodations, all while the rest of the country was without power. They've been mocked mercilessly about it, and for good reason.
While everyone involved has opposed everything about Western culture literally, instead embracing socialism or communism – a difference without distinction – I fully expect them all to return home and ignore what they saw down there.
Sure, there's been a long-running embargo against Cuba. That's given as the reason why everything is terrible down there. It's why they have cars from before the Cuban revolution and little else, and it's why America is just so evil that it should be ashamed of literally everything since before the ink was dry on the Declaration of Independence.
I mean, they had a great time in Havana, right?
What they saw, though, was much like what people see when they join these groups going to other totalitarian nations. They see precisely what they're intended to see and nothing else. They live it up, see the shiny baubles, and think they're living the dream. Piker, for example, raved about China during his visit there and afterward, all while ignoring the fact that he was almost arrested over a meme.
See, when you're an American who is sympathetic to the communist cause, you're going to be at the top. You're going to get the five-star accommodations, the best meals, and yes, electricity. You're going to live it up, and they're going to make sure you don't see any of the warts.

Code Pink and company didn't see the political prisoners – real political prisoners, mind you, not Islamic terrorists arrested for being terrorists in Israel – and they didn't bother to ask. They celebrated Cuba as what democracy should be, all while ignoring that the only legal political party is the Communist Party. They were at the top of the pyramid at that time and think they're experts on everything.
They blame America for the embargo and the poor quality of life in Cuba, but the truth is that if communism is so great, why does it need capitalism to exist in order to thrive?
For them, they were at the tippy top, and the view from there always looks great.
But the truth is that if the United States embraced communism like they seem to want us to, the vast majority of these people wouldn't be near that top again, if any of them were. They'd find out that some of them didn't have the right vision for their new society, and they're to be shipped to a gulag. They'll be loaded onto buses and sent to the farms or factories they'll be working at for the rest of their lives. They'll see all those warts that were hidden from them simply because they're no longer relevant.
No one needs them to trick others into thinking communism is great. The communists control all communication and can tell people whatever they want.
We know this because this has played out throughout the world, including in Cuba.
It's only the truly stupid who buy into this. Unfortunately, our university system is dedicated to churning out truly stupid people who do.
There are tons of arguments against communism as an economic system, but the strongest arguments against it fall under a different subject: History.
Code Pink and their fellow mentally deficient would do well to crack open a book on the topic before they make bigger fools of themselves.
