The 40 congressional districts in the 116th Congress that had the highest median values for their owner-occupied homes were all represented by Democrats.
In fact, during that Congress, only 10 of the 100 congressional districts with the highest median owner-occupied home values were represented by Republicans.
The U.S. Census Bureau released data last week from its American Community Survey that included the "median housing value of owner-occupied housing units" in each of the nation's 435 congressional districts from the 116th Congress (which ended in January 2021).
Twenty-seven of the 40 districts that had the highest median home values were in California. Another seven were in New York; three were in Washington state; two were in Hawaii and one was in Massachusetts.
Four of the six richest congressional districts in the country -- when measured by median home value -- were in the San Francisco Bay Area. The other two were in Los Angeles.
The district with the most expensive homes was California's 18th District, which included the southern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, part of the Santa Clara Valley, and the Santa Cruz Mountains that stretch westward from Santa Clara to the coast.
In that congressional district, according to the Census Bureau, the median value of an owner-occupied home was $1,702,700.
The rich people who lived in that district did not elect a conservative -- or a Republican -- to Congress. They elected Democratic Rep. Anna Eshoo.
What does she believe in?
Last June, when the Supreme Court released its opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade, Eshoo became a leader of the movement to codify Roe and legalize abortion nationwide.

"She held the first hearing on protecting access to abortion in over 20 years when her Health Subcommittee considered the Women's Health Protection Act, legislation that codifies the Roe v. Wade decision," says her official congressional website.
She has also worked to provide amnesty to illegal aliens. "Rep. Eshoo has consistently advocated for providing relief from deportation and a pathway to citizenship for 'Dreamers,'" says her website.
And, in 2017, she voted against President Donald Trump's tax-cut proposal.
The district with the second-most expensive homes in the country was California's 33rd District, which was represented by Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu. This district represents the coastal area of Los Angeles, stretching from Rancho Palos Verdes in the south to Malibu in the north. The median home value in this Democratic district was $1,497,100.
The district with the third-most expensive homes in the country was California's 12th District, which consisted of all but the southwest corner of the City of San Francisco. It was represented by then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The median home value in her district was $1,325,100.
California's 14th District, which included the southwest corner of the City of San Francisco and the northern half of the San Francisco Peninsula, ranked fourth. It was represented by Democratic Rep. Jackie Speier and had a median home value of $1,289,000.
California's 17th District, which included part of the Santa Clara Valley and the southern end of the East Bay, ranked fifth. It was represented by Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna and had a median home value of $1,276,300.
California's 28th District, which reached east from Los Angeles into Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena, ranked sixth. It was represented by Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff and had a median home value of $1,051,000.
The congressional district that ranked seventh for the highest median home values in the 116th Congress was not in California, but it was still controlled by the Democratic Party. It was New York's 10th District, which was based in New York City and represented by Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler. It had a median home value of $1,015,100.
The other three districts in the Top Ten for median home values during the 116th Congress were all in California and all represented by Democrats. They included the Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren's 19th District, which covered parts of the Santa Clara Valley and had a median home value of $996,900; Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell's 15th District, which covered the southern end of the East Bay and had a median home value of $989,300; and current Los Angeles mayor but then-Rep. Karen Bass' Los Angeles-based 37th District, which had a median home value of $953,400.
According to the Census Bureau's data, every congressional district with a median home value above $651,800 was represented in Congress by a Democrat.
By contrast, 24 of the 40 U.S. House districts with the lowest median owner-occupied home values were represented by Republicans in the 116th Congress.
